ATTY/RESO.0058/CC RESO REDWOOD SHORES (PCA NOMINATION) REV: 05-27-25 VR Page 1 of 3 RESOLUTION NO. 16329 RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDWOOD CITY NOMINATING THE GEOGRAPHY AS DEPICTED IN THE ATTACHED MAP AS A PRIORITY CONSERVATION AREA (PCA) AND AUTHORIZING SUBMISSION OF THE NOMINATION AS THE “REDWOOD SHORES PRIORITY CONSERVATION AREA” TO THE ASSOCIATION OF BAY AREA GOVERNMENTS FOR DESIGNATION AS A PCA. WHEREAS, in 2007, the Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC) and the Association of Bay Area Governments (ABAG) developed a regional land use planning framework that includes Priority Conservation Areas (PCA); and WHEREAS, PCAs are designated geographic areas nominated by local jurisdictions and recognized by the Association of Bay Area Governments (ABAG) to support regional conservation, resilience and sustainability goals; and WHEREAS, PCAs include diverse landscapes such as nature preserves, farms, ranches, trails, urban parks, and areas that benefit from urban greening or nature-based climate adaptation solutions; and WHEREAS, the PCA planning framework includes locally nominated PCAs as locations to coordinate local and regional planning for the conservation of regionally significant areas which are adopted by ABAG; and WHEREAS, the PCA designation provides opportunities for grant funding to support recreational, restoration, and conservation projects, helping to achieve both local and regional goals; and WHEREAS, the Redwood Shores PCA contains recreational facilities including the San Francisco Bay Trail, wetlands, tidal plains, and wildlife corridors that contribute to the recreational, ecological, and climate resilience needs of Redwood City and the greater Bay Area; and WHEREAS, Redwood City recognizes the importance of nominating the Redwood Shores PCA to ensure eligibility for future funding and support for projects that enhance the area; and WHEREAS, as needs and opportunities arise and funding becomes available, Redwood City will coordinate with other government agencies, adjacent property owners, and community partners and stakeholders to design and implement projects in the Redwood Shores PCA that enhance its recreational, ecological, and climate resilience benefits; and
