Current regulation and testing of cell tower radiation is inadequate, similar to the early years of <br />tobacco, with denial of health harms for many decades, along with discrediting of research and <br />researchers who demonstrated the biologically toxic effects of wireless radiation. <br /> I urge you to protect your citizens, property values and your environment by adopting, as soon <br />as possible, the strongest legally sound wireless facilities ordinance for your city, as other cities <br />such as Ithaca, New York have done. I will describe below and provide examples. <br /> <br />No Premarket or Post Market Safety Testing or Monitoring…Just False <br />Assumptions <br /> <br />The massive rollout of 5G cell towers is now proceeding throughout cities worldwide, propelled <br />by industry friendly laws which have remarkably removed industry barriers of premarket testing <br />and post market monitoring, as well as appropriate health and safety studies. Industry continues <br />to proclaim the lack of harm from wireless radiation with no proof of safety, while numerous <br />studies to date have established harm from cell tower radiation to people and wildlife prior to 5G <br />frequencies. (Levitt 2022) <br />These studies demonstrate that residents who live, work or go to school closer to cell towers are <br />exposed to higher levels of non-ionizing electromagnetic radiation and are more likely to <br />experience adverse health impacts including cancer, metabolic dysfunction and neurologic <br />disturbances. The international limits of cell tower radiation most commonly used were <br />developed with multiple false assumptions, thus leading to higher safety limits by the <br />International Commission on Non-Ionizing Radiation Protection (ICNIRP) and the Federal <br />Communications Commission (FCC). Some argue these are not health protective limits and this <br />is supported by the numerous studies listed below. (ICBE-EMF 2022). Some countries such as <br />Italy and Russia have safety levels that are 100 times less than the U.S., based on the emerging <br />science of biologic harm rather than heat as end endpoint of injury and citing the precautionary <br />principle. <br />As predicted, rather than studying the impacts of wireless radiofrequency radiation (RFR) prior <br />to commercialization of new technologies, research is now being published on the real-life <br />exposures and increased reported health effects of newly operational 5G towers which are <br />accompanied by more and larger 4G backhaul towers in cities. This is a backwards approach to <br />public health policy, ignoring or dismissing harm and the precautionary principle, again, similar <br />to tobacco and other toxic chemical products that are considered innocent until proven guilty. <br />Ishai (2024) notes wireless “Industry convenience is being prioritized and thereby subjecting the <br />public to avoidable risks.” <br /> <br /> <br />Summary of seven Swedish case reports on the microwave syndrome <br />associated with 5G radiofrequency radiation (RFR) (Hardell and Nisson 2023) <br /> <br />Hardell and Nilsson in 2023 published a series of 8 case reports from Sweden on the rapid <br />onset of mostly neurologic health effects on residents soon after 5G cell tower placement, in <br />addition to a summary of seven of these cases.
