From:Lissette Espinoza Garnica
To:publiccomment
Subject:Item 8A
Date:Monday, July 21, 2025 9:31:41 AM
You don't often get email from espinozagarnicalissette@gmail.com. Learn why this is important
This is former Redwood City Vice Mayor Lissette Espinoza Garnica, and I write to you all in
strong opposition to the passing of an anti-camping ordinance.
It is a shame to see our city seeking new ways to criminalize our unhoused residents despite
all evidence that proves carceral approaches to homelessness do not work.
Your proposed diversion programs do not make up for the incredible harm and trauma that the
council is inflicting on our unhoused residents if it chooses to create new criminal penalties for
homelessness. Unsanitary and dangerous activities around encampments are already
outlawed.
Therefore, this law only succeeds in disappearing the impoverished from society by sending
them to jail just for being unhoused. There are real housing solutions the city can adopt
instead, like lowering the rent cap and investing in social housing. Please, do not punish
people for being poor, and please stand up for the vulnerable. Vote NO today.
