From:Jane Taylor
To:publiccomment
Subject:Public Comment: Anti-camping ordinance
Date:Monday, July 21, 2025 3:59:33 PM
You don't often get email from janeyappleseed@icloud.com. Learn why this is important
Dear Redwood City Council members,
I support the City adopting an anti-camping ordinance that aligns with the County’s
program with the couple of provisions explained at the community outreach
potential anti-camping ordinance workshop.
Over the 35 years that I have lived in Redwood City, I have observed a greater and
greater number of homeless on city streets, loitering and sleeping on public and
private spaces, in their tents, living in vehicles and sprawling encampments. This is
reflected in the statistics presented at the community workshop. Health and safety
is my primary concern but also the criminal aspects that are going on (illegal
substances, theft of the things they scavenge for themselves or to sell). Many of the
encampments also have bicycle chop shops associated with them blatantly
processing stolen bicycles.
Let’s recognize that doing nothing helps no one - not those on the street, not those
of us that live and work in Redwood City and for our visitors! Revisiting this
ordinance in two years allows for adjustment of the ordinance if necessary.
Thank you for consideration in taking up this matter,
Jane Taylor
49 Jeter Street
Redwood City, CA 94062
