Hydraulic Model Development and Calibration
City of Redwood City (0011239.02)2-15 Woodard & Curran, Inc.
Sanitary Sewer Capacity Master Plan November 2023
fall to a flow hydrograph for each subcatchment based on the RTK values for the flow meter area in which that
subcatchment is located.
For this Master Plan, characteristic RDI/I flow parameters were developed for each flow meter area based on calibration
of model flows to actual flow data recorded for the wet weather period in January and February 2019 and early March
2016 for the Redwood Shores and Seaport/Pacific Shores pump station monitoring. Model calibration is discussed in
the following section.
Figure 2-11:RDI/I Hydrograph Components
2.4 MODEL CALIBRATION
Model calibration is the process of comparing model-simulated flows to monitored (observed) flows and adjusting model
parameters until a reasonably good match is achieved. During calibration, it is not expected that every meter match
flow data at all times, but most meters should reasonably match the flow volumes and peak flows. Model calibration is
achieved first through comparison of modeled versus metered flows during a dry weather (non-rainfall) period to achieve
an accurate prediction of BWF and GWI, then during the wet weather period to estimate RDI/I response.
ATTY/RESO.0077/CC RESO SEWER SYSTEM MANAGEMENT PLAN - EXHIBIT A
REV: 07-14-25 LF
