V)r0damation <br />Fire Prevention Week <br />October 5 —11, 2025 <br />WHEREAS, Fire Prevention Week has been observed annually since 1922, during the week of October <br />9, in commemoration of the Great Chicago Fire of 1871; and <br />WHEREAS, the 2025 Fire Prevention Week theme, "Charge into Fire SafetyTM: Lithium -Ion Batteries <br />in Your Home, " highlights the importance of understanding and practicing fire -safe behaviors when <br />using and charging lithium -ion battery powered devices that are part of daily life; and <br />WHEREAS, lithium -ion batteries power essential devices such as cell phones, laptops, power tools, <br />e -bikes, and toys, but improper use, charging, or disposal can pose serious fire risks to individuals, <br />families, and communities; and <br />WHEREAS, the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) and the City of Redwood City are <br />dedicated to reducing the risk of home fires and protecting the lives and property of all residents through <br />fire safety education and prevention efforts; and <br />WHEREAS, key safety practices include purchasing battery powered products that are tested and <br />certified by recognized safety organizations, charging devices on hard and nonflammable surfaces with <br />the proper manufacturer -approved chargers, avoiding overcharging, and properly recycling batteries <br />at designated collection sites; and <br />WHEREAS, Fire Prevention Week provides an important opportunity for residents of Redwood City to <br />learn about fire safety, practice safe charging and disposal habits, and work together to make our <br />community safer from preventable fires. <br />NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT I, ELMER MARTINEZ SABALLOS, MAYOR OF <br />REDWOOD CITY, on behalf of the City Council and the people of the City of Redwood City, do hereby <br />proclaim October 5 - 11, 2025 as Fire Prevention Week in the City of Redwood City, and I call upon <br />all residents, schools, businesses, and community organizations to observe this week with appropriate <br />programs, activities, and outreach to raise awareness about fire prevention and safety practices, <br />especially in the use of lithium -ion batteries. <br />Date: October 13, 2025 <br />Elmer Martinez Saballos, Mayor <br />Kaia Eakin, Lica Mayor <br />Isabella Chu, CamcilMember <br />Jgf Gee, Council Member <br />Diane Howard, Council Member <br />Marcella Padilla, Council Member <br />Chris SMrken, Council Member <br />
