Redwood City Police Department <br />Redwood City PD Policy Manual <br />Military Equipment Use <br />Copyright Lexipol, LLC 2022/03/23, All Rights Reserved. <br />Published with permission by Redwood City Police <br />Department <br />DRAFT Military Equipment Use 10 <br />Equipment Name: Specialized firearms and ammunition - CA Gov’t Code §7070(c)(10) <br />Equipment: Accuracy International .308 Rifle <br />Quantity Owned/Sought: 2 owned Lifespan: Approximately 15-20 years <br />Equipment Capabilities: The Accuracy International rifle is a precision rifle capable of <br />extreme accuracy over long distances capable of firing a .308 caliber projectile <br />Manufacturer Product Description: The AT rifle is a configurable, mission-adaptable, long- <br />range tactical rifle system offered in .308/7.62 NATO caliber. It is a bolt action operated rifle. <br />Purpose/Authorized Uses: Long-range precision firing system used solely by SRT during <br />tactical operations. This rifle is designed to deliver highly controlled and precise shots under <br />narrow circumstances such as counter-sniper situations and to provide over watch protection <br />at large community events. Deployed only by authorized sniper-trained SRT Team <br />members. General guidelines for deployment include: <br />1. Situations where the officer reasonably anticipates an armed encounter. <br />2. When an officer is faced with a situation that may require accurate and effective fire at <br />long range. <br />3. Situations where an officer reasonably expects the need to meet or exceed a <br />suspect's firepower. <br />4. When an officer reasonably believes there may be a need to fire on a barricaded <br />person or a person with a hostage. <br />5. When an officer reasonably believes a suspect may be wearing body armor. <br />6. When authorized or requested by a supervisor. <br />Fiscal Impacts: Initial cost - $5,250. Ammunition costs will vary annually and are detailed in <br />the Annual Military Equipment Use Report available at the Department website. <br />Maintenance is conducted by departmental staff. <br />Legal/Procedural Rules Governing Use: All applicable State, Federal and Local laws <br />governing police use of force. Various Redwood City Police Department Policies on Use of <br />Force and Firearms. <br />Training Required: POST SWAT Operator Basic Course. POST Rifle Marksmanship and <br />Sniper course, Authorized officers complete monthly training to maintain proficiency and <br />qualify quarterly. <br />Other Notes: None <br />8.G. - Page 14 of 44 <br />382
