Recology. While the costs associated with waste collection in the Bay Area are certainly
higher than the national average, and somewhat higher rates than the national average
are to be expected, Redwood City homeowners are currently paying approximately
seven to ten times the rates that are typically charged to homeowners in the United
States who receive waste collection services under a franchise agreement (either
through a government franchise or through an agreement with an HOA). This price
differential is unconscionable: even accounting for the higher costs in the Bay Area,
seven to ten times the typical domestic rate is an indefensible premium. The City
Council, as well as the South Bayside Waste Management Authority, should be finding
ways to lower our rates -- not asking for yet another increase.

Yours sincerely,
/s/ Patrick Toth
