From:Gita Dev
To:GRP-City Council
Subject:Water rate change - protest against raise in rates
Date:Thursday, November 6, 2025 8:05:36 AM
THIS IS A PROTEST AGAINST THE PROPOSED CHANGES IN WATER RATES
Date: Nov. 4, 2025
Owner: Timothy Martin and Gita Dev
Address: 1124 Grand Street, Redwood City
Ours is a single Family residence.
1. We are conserving water and as a result you are increasing rates. That is not
fair as we end up not saving any money for our efforts.
2. Redwood city residents should not be paying more than Palo Alto,
Mountain View, Burlingame and Menlo Park. We disagree with the argument
that Redwood City congratulates itself on paying LESS than some other cities -
On the contrary we will be paying MORE.
3. We request that you examine the expenses - again - more closely to see how
the city can save money on operations. Before making this critical decision,
we need to examine the expenses side more carefully before making residents
pay more. Something is wrong with the allocation of expenditures.
4. The tiered rate is very important as an incentive to conserve a precious
resource - water- unless you can demonstrate otherwise.
5. Those businesses that will benefit financially from using recycled water
should pay into a fund for extending the recycled water pipelines. This should
not be paid by residents.
6. these increases will hurt residents at a time when inflation too is exploding. In
addition, it is clear that we are all going to pay even more in sales taxes starting
in 2026.
Thank you for the opportunity to provide input
Gita Dev
for Timothy Martin and Gita Dev
-- Gita DevConservation Committee, ChairSustainable Land Use Committee, ChairSierra Club Loma Prieta415.722.3355
