Kostura, Mills Act nomination for 731 Edgewood Road, Redwood City <br />The subject property, 731 Edgewood Road, falls within the original Wellesley Park subdivision, <br />not the newer Edgewood Park. With a construction date of 1936, it is not one of the oldest <br />houses in Wellesley Park, though it is older than many. <br />History of this house <br />Initial construction <br />This house, and a garage that was situated behind it, were built in 1936. The architect is <br />unknown because this was after the period when a construction and architectural journal <br />documented many new buildings in Redwood City, and it was prior to the requirement of <br />building permits. <br />Owners and residents <br />The owners and residents of this house from the time of construction to recent years are given <br />below. When their occupations are known, that information is given, too. <br />1936-1947. Glenn H. and Annabelle Ticer. Throughout this period he worked as a sales <br />representative for the Western Division of the National Broadcasting Company (NBC) at their <br />San Francisco office, initially in the Hunter-Dulin Building at 111 Sutter Street, and then in <br />NBC’s own new building at 420 Taylor Street. <br />1947 (February to June). Ridge L. Harlan. <br />1947-1949. George W. and Isabel A. Tanner. In 1950, after they had moved to another house <br />in Redwood City, he worked as the manager of a “cleaning plant.” <br />1949-1952. Ethel Dodge Frost. <br />1952-1959. Dalmar G. and Aura M. Berglund. During these years he was the western <br />manager of the A. Leschen and Sons Rope Company, at 520 Fourth Street in San Francisco. <br />This business manufactured Hercules Red Strand Wire Rope. <br />1959-1961. Jerome J. and Mary Lou Johnston. He was the manager of the Pacific Fullview <br />Company, possibly in San Carlos. The nature of this business is unknown. <br />1961-1962. Robert L. and Virginia Shaw. He was the sales manager of the Spinnerin Yarn <br />Company. Its place of business is unknown. <br />1962-1966. James C. and Patricia Pratt.
