WHEREAS, the Bay Area Alliance for Sustainable Development is a multi- <br />stakeholder coalition established in 1997 to develop and implement a <br />sustainability action plan for the Bay Area; and <br />WHEREAS, the Bay Area Alliance for Sustainable Development defines <br />sustainable development as the ability "to meet the needs of the present without <br />compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs;" and <br />WHEREAS, the overall goal of the Bay Area Alliance draft "Compact' is to <br />reach consensus among a critical mass of stakeholder organizations and civic <br />leaders regarding a new shared vision rooted in common values about how the <br />region can grow in a more sustainable manner. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: <br />1. The City Council of the City of Redwood City joins the overall goal of <br />stakeholder organizations and civic leaders regarding a new shared local vision <br />rooted in common values about how the region can grow in a more sustainable <br />manner; and <br />2. The City Council of the City of Redwood City endorses and joins in <br />building a consensus on a new shared vision through the development and <br />adoption of the Bay Area Alliance draft "Compact' that can become the <br />foundation for implementing actions by both the public and private sector at the <br />local, regional, state and national levels. <br />Reso -1179 2 <br />DES:fl <br />Shared/Redwood/Council <br />06/19/01 <br />14264 <br />
