Equipment Type: Tear Gas (Chemical Agent) - CA Gov’t Code §7070(c)(12) <br />Equipment: Defense Technology Triple-Chaser CS Model 1026 <br />Quantity Owned/Sought: 5 owned Lifespan: 5 years <br />Equipment Capabilities: Disperses CS chemical agent <br />Manufacturer Product Description: The Triple-Chaser® CS consists of three separate <br />canisters pressed together with separating charges between each. When deployed, the <br />canisters separate and land approximately 20 feet apart allowing increased area coverage in <br />a short period of time. This grenade can be hand thrown or launched from a fired delivery <br />system. The grenade is 6.5 in. by 2.7 in. and holds an approximately 3.2 oz. of active agent <br />payload. It has an approximate burn time of 20-30 seconds. <br />Purpose/Authorized Uses: These devices are only deployed by the SRT team during critical <br />incidents or planned operations. They are primarily used in violent crowd control situations <br />pursuant to the requirements of Penal Code section 13652. <br />Fiscal Impacts: $46.20 each ($231.00 total). These munitions need to be periodically <br />replaced as they expire or are used in training or operationally. <br />Legal/Procedural Rules Governing Use: Deployed in accordance with all applicable State, <br />Federal and Local laws governing police use of force. Various Redwood City Policies related <br />to Use of Force and Crowd Control. Chemical agents for crowd control purposes shall only <br />be deployed by officers who have received POST training for crowd control if the use is <br />objectively reasonable to defend against a threat to life or serious bodily injury to any <br />individual, including an officer, or to bring an objectively dangerous and unlawful situation <br />safely and effectively under control (Penal Code § 13652). <br />Training Required: Only trained members of the SRT team are authorized to deploy this <br />device. Instructors are POST certified. Designated members of the SRT Team attend the <br />POST certified chemical agents school and are the only designated team members <br />authorized to deploy these munitions. The SRT Team periodically trains with these munitions <br />to maintain proficiency. <br />Other Notes: None. <br />REV: 04-07-26 VR
