In 2023, speeding was the PCF in 44 crashes with 29 injuries. That represents a 44% <br />increase in speed related crashes from 2023 to 2024. <br /> <br />- 2024 - a total of 94 DUI crashes resulting in 47 injuries. <br />- 2024 - a total of 16 motorcycle involved crashes, resulting in 18 injuries. <br />- 2024 - a total of 58 bicycle involved crashes resulting in 47 injuries. <br />- 2024 - a total of 36 pedestrian involved crashes resulting in 58 injuries. <br />- 2024 - a total of 56 nighttime (2100 - 0259 hrs.) crashes, which is 15 more than in 2023, resulting in a 37% <br />increase in nighttime crashes. <br /> <br />Define the target population the grant intends to serve and how they are affected by the problem(s). <br />The primary target population served will include the residents of Redwood city and the hundreds of <br />thousands of tourists who frequent the city from around the world. This target group is wide ranging as traffic <br />crashes whether DUI or speed related or not have the ability to impact anyone and their families at any time <br />and at any location. In addition to these individuals, the RCPD traffic safety details will be served by <br />increasing training opportunities and skills of newer officers while upgrading equipment to better conduct <br />enforcement through a data driven approach. <br /> <br />Our department is committed to working diligently through enforcement, education, and community <br />collaboration to proactively prevent traffic crashes and fatalities. By strengthening partnerships and <br />promoting safe driving practices, we strive to protect lives and ensure that everyone remains safe on our <br />roadways. <br /> <br />2. PERFORMANCE MEASURES <br />A. Goals: <br />1. Reduce the number of persons killed in traffic crashes. <br />2. Reduce the number of persons injured in traffic crashes. <br />3. Reduce the number of pedestrians killed in traffic crashes. <br />4. Reduce the number of pedestrians injured in traffic crashes. <br />5. Objectives: Target Number <br />1. Develop (by December 31) and/or maintain a “DUI BOLO” program to notify patrol <br />and traffic officers to be on the lookout for identified repeat DUI offenders with a <br />suspended or revoked license as a result of DUI convictions. Updated DUI BOLOs <br />should be distributed to patrol and traffic officers monthly. <br />7 <br />2. Send law enforcement personnel to the NHTSA Standardized Field Sobriety <br />Testing (SFST) (minimum 16 hours) POST-certified training. <br />1 <br />3. Send law enforcement personnel to the NHTSA Advanced Roadside Impaired <br />Driving Enforcement (ARIDE) 16 hour POST-certified training. <br />1 <br />4.
