ATTY/RESO.0029/CC RESO GENERAL ELECTION-INITIATIVE MEASURE (PROPOSED ORDINANCE) <br />REV: 06-08-26 LF <br />Page 1 of 3 <br />RESOLUTION NO. 16410 <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDWOOD <br />CITY CALLING FOR AN ELECTION TO BE CONSOLIDATED WITH THE <br />STATEWIDE GENERAL ELECTION ON NOVEMBER 3, 2026 FOR THE <br />PURPOSE OF SUBMITTING TO THE VOTERS AN INITIATIVE <br />MEASURE TO AMEND THE REDWOOD CITY CODE TO IMPOSE <br />ADDITIONAL RENT CONTROL AND JUST CAUSE EVICTION LIMITS <br />WHEREAS, on October 29, 2025, three Redwood City residents (“the <br />Proponents”) submitted to the City’s Elections Official a Notice of Intent to Circulate an <br />Initiative Petition for an initative measure known as the Redwood City Fair and Affordable <br />Housing Ordinance; and <br />WHEREAS, on April 23, 2026, the Proponents presented petition signatures to the <br />City Clerk at which time the City Clerk determined there to be a sufficient number of <br />signatures, prima facie, to proceed with accepting the petition as filed and conducting a <br />full verification of the petition signatures; and <br />WHEREAS, on May 13, 2026, the San Mateo County Elections Office informed <br />the City Clerk that their review of the petition signatures confirmed the total number of <br />valid signatures on the petition was 4,751, which exceeded the required number of <br />signatures per California Elections Code Section 9215; and <br />WHEREAS, on May 19, 2026, the City Clerk issued a Certificate of Sufficiency to <br />the City Council setting forth facts establishing that the petition was signed by not less <br />than 10 percent of the voters of the City and therefore was sufficient; and <br />WHEREAS, pursuant to Elections Code Section 9215,the City Council has <br />decided to submit to the voters the Redwood City Fair and Affordable Housing Ordinance <br />and desires to place it on the ballot at the aforesaid consolidated election. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY <br />OF REDWOOD CITY, AS FOLLOWS: <br />SECTION 1. - Calling the Election and Request for Consolidation. Pursuant to <br />California Elections Code Sections 1405, 9215, and 10403, the City Council hereby calls <br />an election to be consolidated with the Statewide General Election to be held on <br />November 3, 2026, for the purpose of submitting the initiative measure described below <br />and set forth in Exhibit A (attached hereto), to a vote of the qualified voters of the City of <br />Redwood City, and hereby requests the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo <br />to consolidate this election with the Statewide General Election on November 3, 2026. <br />The consolidated election shall be held and conducted in the manner prescribed by <br />Elections Code Section 10418. The City Council hereby authorizes the City Clerk to take <br />any and all actions necessary to prepare for and conduct said elections consistent with <br />all applicable laws.
