REDWOOD CITY 9212 <br /> <br />Economic & Planning Systems, Inc. 24 Redwood City Housing Impacts <br />Redwood City’s renter population skews younger than the citywide population. <br />As shown in Table 10, householders under the age of 35 account for <br />approximately 40.3% of renter households, compared to just 23.8 percent of <br />households citywide. In contrast, residents over age 65 comprise only 9.9 percent <br />of renter households, compared to 26.5 percent of households citywide. <br />While seniors represent a smaller share of renters, they may be among the groups <br />most positively impacted by rent stabilization policies, as many live on fixed <br />incomes and are more vulnerable to rent increases. Householders over age 65 <br />occupy approximately 10% of rental units in the City and represent about 26% of <br />the overall senior population. <br />Not all rental units would be subject to the proposed Ordinance, so the share of <br />seniors directly affected would likely be lower. As a result, while the proposed <br />Ordinance would provide meaningful protections for some older renters, its direct <br />impact would extend to less than a quarter of the City’s senior population. <br />Table 10.
