Proclamation <br />Stephens Carter Family Reunion and <br />National Family Reunion Month <br />WHEREAS, the City of Redwood City proudly recognizes the importance of family, heritage, and <br />community connections that strengthen the social fabric of our city; and <br />WHEREAS, July is recognized nationally as National Family Reunion Month, a time dedicated <br />to celebrating family unity, honoring ancestral legacies, and fostering intergenerational bonds; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, the Stephens Carter Family migrated from Mississippi to Redwood City in the early <br />1950s, becoming part of the vibrant and growing community that helped shape the character and <br />history of our city; and <br />WHEREAS, for generations, members of the Stephens Carter Family have contributed to the <br />civic, educational, spiritual, and cultural life of Redwood City through their deep-rooted <br />connections to institutions including Mount Zion Baptist Church, Sequoia High School, Fair Oaks <br />Elementary School, and Washington Elementary School; and <br />WHEREAS, the Stephens Carter Family Reunion serves as an opportunity to celebrate the <br />enduring legacy of family, honor the sacrifices and achievements of earlier generations, and <br />inspire future generations to continue building strong community ties; and <br />WHEREAS, the City of Redwood City is honored to acknowledge the longstanding presence, <br />contributions, and community spirit of the Stephens Carter Family and joins in celebrating their <br />reunion gathering on July 17, 2026 <br />NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT I, ELMER MARTINEZ SABALLOS, <br />MAYOR OF REDWOOD CITY, on behalf of the City Council and the people of the City of <br />Redwood City, do hereby proclaim July 17, 2026, as "Stephens Carter Family Reunion Day" <br />and further recognize July 2026 as "National Family Reunion Month': <br />Date: July 17, 2026 <br />Elmer Martinez Saballos, Ma3mr <br />Kaia Eakin, Vice Mayor <br />Isabella Chu, CouncilMember <br />Jeff Gee, Council Mempber <br />Diane Howard, Council Member <br />Mumvilla A.a jla, ouncil.4fombrr <br />Chris Slurheu, Council Member <br />
