Learn whythis is important
Dear Mayor Martinez Saballos and members of the Redwood City City Council:
As a Redwood City rental housing provider, I’m asking you to formally oppose the rent and
eviction control measure on the November ballot and to submit a ballot argument against it.
One issue I have not heard discussed is the impact on electric vehicle charging. California
policy encourages EV charging and, in many circumstances, landlords cannot simply
prohibit residents from charging their vehicles. At older multifamily properties, EV charging
often occurs when is not separately metered. If Redwood City eliminates RUBS without
another mechanism to allocate these utility costs, property owners may have no practical
way to recover significant increases in electricity usage attributable to individual residents.
As a property manager, we've seen a noticeable increase in residents charging electric
vehicles. If RUBS is eliminated without addressing EV charging, property owners may have
no practical way to recover these additional utility expenses from the residents creating them.
The owners most affected are longtime, small “mom and pop” providers and affordable
housing operators in older buildings, not large corporate landlords. Please protect this
housing stock and the residents who depend on it by opposing this measure.
Kristine Abbey, CCRM
Owner/Broker
www.rockawayresidential.com
DRE #02078912
650-290-3084
