Learn why this is important <br />Dear Mayor and City Council, <br />We are residents of 39 Waterside Circle in the Sandpiper Lagoon development and are writing <br />regarding Staff Report A for the August 24 City Council meeting and the Redwood Shores <br />Sea Level Rise Protection Project. <br />We support the City's flood protection and FEMA recertification goals. We also support <br />Alternative 2, the Optimized Design, for the Waterside Circle section, as presented at the <br />August 15 Redwood Shores community meeting. <br />Both alternatives provide the same FEMA +1 flood protection objective. Our concern is the <br />difference in footprint and the potential for additional landward encroachment toward the <br />homes along Waterside Circle. <br />After the August 15 presentation, Rob spoke directly with Engineering and Transportation <br />Director Tanisha Werner. In that conversation, Ms. Werner told Rob that there are currently <br />no plans to pursue the previously presented Sandpiper ecological levee setback concept from <br />January 2026. She also explained that Alternative 1's wider 20-foot footprint would extend <br />farther toward the homes, rather than away from them on the Steinberger Slough side. <br />Additional landward encroachment along Waterside Circle raises concerns about: <br />Reduced privacy <br />Changes to views and neighborhood character <br />Loss of the existing greenbelt buffer <br />Increased proximity of the Bay Trail to residences <br />Potential impacts on property desirability and value <br />Near our home at 39 Waterside Circle, the existing trail is roughly 70 feet from the residential <br />edge based on current map measurements (see Google Maps measurement). We believe that <br />existing separation should be preserved. <br />We respectfully ask the Council to: <br />Select Alternative 2 as the preferred design alternative. <br />Preserve the existing levee and Bay Trail alignment along Waterside Circle. <br />Avoid additional landward encroachment toward the Waterside Circle residences. <br />Preserve the existing greenbelt buffer between the trail and the homes. <br />Carry these considerations forward as the Waterside section moves through further <br />design and environmental review. <br />We support moving the Sea Level Rise Protection Project forward. We are asking that the <br />City's flood protection goals be achieved while preserving the existing Waterside levee and
