<br />RES 0 L UTI 0 N <br /> <br />N 0.1470 <br /> <br />OPPOSING SENATE BILL 1100 AND ASSEMBLY <br />BILLS 1640, 1641, 1642 AND 2429 <br /> <br />WHEREAS there have been introduced into the Legis- <br />lature bills to change the disposition of fines and forfeitures <br />of Municipal Courts to the extreme detrimental effect of <br />municipalities of the State of California; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS said bills provide that all costs of mainten- <br /> <br /> <br />ance of Municipal and Justice Courts other than capital outlay <br /> <br /> <br />shall be first deducted from fines and forfeitures before any <br /> <br /> <br />distribution of the proceeds of fines and forfeitures in such <br /> <br />courts are made; and <br /> <br />\VHEREAS, if this drastic change in the present system <br /> <br /> <br />of allocation of fines and forfeitures is enacted, approximately <br /> <br /> <br />$7,000,000.00 a year would be taken from municipalities and <br /> <br />turned over to the cou~ts for support of municipal and <br />justice courts; <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF REDWOOD CITY HEREBY <br />RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS: <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />1. That it unalterably opposes the passage and <br />adoption of Senate Bill 1100 and Assembly Bills 1640, 1641, <br />1642 and 2429, due to the unfair results and inequitable <br /> <br />distribution of fines and forfeitures which will result from <br /> <br />such legislation. <br /> <br />2. The Clerk of the City of Redwood City is hereby <br /> <br />directed to ~ail a certified copy of this resolution to the <br /> <br /> <br />Senate Judiciary Committee of the California state Legisla- <br /> <br /> <br />ture and certified copies of said resolution to Senator <br /> <br /> <br />Parkman and Assemblymen Dolwig and Creedon. <br /> <br />* * * <br />
