Mr. E. A. Roli son
Page 2
August 24 1954
Done of the more extreme examples of the horror books were
found during the survey, possibly due to the voluntary
screening by the various merchants.
3. No le g islation, other than Section 311...3 P. C., exists for
the control of such displays, and none of the horror books
fall within the meaning of this section. District Attorney
Keith Sorenson has just returned from a conference in the
East at which this subject was discussed. Various opinions
were expressed as to the harm these books may do, and no
quick solution was offered.
In vi ew of the good co- operation extended to this departi
during this survey by the local merchants, it is nv belief
that the merchants will, if requested by the Council, possibly
by resolution, go a long way toward eliminating the more sensa.
tional and possibly harmful books from their shelves.
Respectfully yours,
Mood
Chief of Police
M
