<br />Summary of Community Input - Trial Devices <br /> <br />· General support from McGarvey residents for making the devices permanent - <br />many residents have reported a noticeable reduction in vehicle speeds <br /> <br />· Petition - Remove speed table (near Alameda), signed by twelve residents. Some <br />motorists are honking their horns, apparently in protest, as they traverse the tables <br /> <br />· Petition - Remove traffic circle, signed by six residents on Chesterton Avenue - <br />report that traffic circle is ineffective at slowing traffic and creates a hazard for <br />pedestrians and cyclists <br /> <br />· Several non-McGarvey residents oppose devices for various reason, mostly related <br />to the devices impeding traffic flow/speed <br /> <br />· Input from three members from bicycling community: <br /> <br />1) Speed tables are a vast improvement over no measures at all <br /> <br />2) Devices appear bicycle-neutral <br /> <br />3) Devices are a major safety issue for cyclists, particularly when wet - <br /> <br />o Violent effect on bicycles <br /> <br />o Bad placement at the bottom of steep hill/descent <br /> <br />o Difficult to judge time for vehicles to travel across Fernside over speed <br />tables <br />
