6.28 age 1 REPORT To the Honorable Mayor and City Council From the Ci Mana er February 8, 2010 SUBJECT Final Acceptance - Energy Lighting Retrofit Project Jefferson Avenue Underground Parking Garage RECOMMENDA nON Accept, by motion, the Energy Lighting Retrofit Project and authorize the release of bonds and the retention according to city procedures. BACKGROUND On September 14,2009, Council authorized execution of an energy services contract with A Bright Idea (ABI) of Union City for the Energy Lighting Retrofit Project in the amount of $94,879.84. In participation with PG&E and the San Mateo Energy Watch Energy Efficiency Program, the city's share was previously estimated as $54,568.42 and PG&E's share was $40,311.42. Work to replace 225 metal halide light fixtures with energy saving fluorescent light fixtures began on October 12, 2009 and was successfully completed on December 16, 2009. An audit by PG&E of the actual energy savings resulting from this project generated an additional rebate amount to the city of $7,912.35. As a result, the city's final share of the cost is $46,656.07. The final contract amount of $86,967.49 is 8.3%) less than the original agreement amount. The lighting retrofit conserves energy resources and achieves cost savings through reduced electrical consumption. The annual utility savings to the city has been estimated as $50,271 and the payback period for the cost of the project is 1.1 years. ALTERNAnvEs Council may choose not to accept the project or not to authorize the release of bonds and retention which would be contrary to the terms of the agreement and prior Council action. FISCAL IMPACT Sufficient funds for this project have been previously approved and appropriated as Capital Projects Fund - Civic Facilities Re-Iamping Program.
