Funded through the <br />Department of Homeland Security, the training is being offered in San Francisco on March 18-19 <br />and Long Beach on March 22-23. <br /> <br />The course is intended to: <br />Educate local leaders about their role in emergency management; <br />Improve intra- and inter-govemmental coordination and communication; <br />Improve mutual and automatic aid during and after a disaster; and <br />Help local officials identify potential community risks, leam enough to ask good <br />questions, make sound decisions about capabilities, and deal with the media during an <br />emergency. <br /> <br />Attendees must be familiar with their local Emergency Operations Plan and have taken the IS100, <br />IS700a and IS800. Registration for this two-day training program is free but seating is limited to <br />40 attendees and program applications must be received by Feb. 19. The following memo was distributed to department <br />staff, state agencies and key stakeholders on Jan. 29. <br /> <br />On Jan. 1, 2010 Califomia's recycling and waste diversion efforts were streamlined into the new <br />Department of Resources Recycling and Recovery - CalRecycle. <br /> <br />CalRecycle manages programs created through two landmark initiatives - the Integrated Waste <br />Management Act and the Beverage Container Recycling and Litter Reduction Act - that were <br />formerly part of the California Integrated Waste Management Board (CIWMB) and the <br />Department of Conservation (DOC). Now housed in the Natural Resources Agency, CalRecycle <br />merges the duties of the board with those of DOC's Division of Recycling to best protect public <br /> <br />7 <br />
