In
2009, the City began the process of developing this plan, which identifies and analyzes
potential hazards to the community, including earthquake, flood, fire, and terrorism. A
grant was secured through the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to pay
for three quarters of the cost of plan development. On September 21, 2009, City
Council approved Resolution 14972, which appropriated funding for this project. City
Council approved Resolution 14993 on January 11, 2010, which authorized the City
Manager to request reimbursement on the City's behalf.

The draft Local Hazard Mitigation Plan has been completed, and a public comment
period of over 30 days has been held. Following Council adoption of the draft LHMP, it
will be sent to FEMA for final approval. Once the plan is approved by FEMA, it will be
considered an adopted Local Hazard Mitigation Plan.

ALTERNATIVES
Council can choose not to approve the draft LHMP. Submission to FEMA is contingent
upon approval of the draft plan by Council. Any necessary edits can be made, and then
the LHMP can be brought back to Council for approval at a later date.

FISCAL IMPACT
None

~/=!? vCC-/( ~;P

David J.
