Nei4her street is <br /> currently controlled at this in#ersection. A totat of 31 residents representing 28 <br /> properties within a block of the subject in#ersection, including al!four properties on the <br /> corners,signed the petition in�support of the installation of stop signs at this location. <br /> Existing conditions must meet the critena for a stop sign installation. Criteria include <br /> traffic volume, traffic speed, pedestrian activity, accident history, and sight distances at <br /> the intersection. Staff has studied existing conditions or� Ruby Street and Madison <br /> Avenue and canc[udes that the insta[lation of stop signs at thts intersection on Ruby � <br /> Street is appropriate based on recent activi#y and ather conditions. Ruby Street is the <br /> minor volume street. Madison Avenue, the major s�reet,will remain uncontrolled. The <br /> intersectian of Ruby Street and Madison A�enue has a reasonabfy good safe{�r record. <br /> Of the four accidents that police records show during the period from 2005 to February, <br /> 2010, iwo may have been prevented by stop signs. The requestor reports that there <br /> have been four fio five accidents within approximateiy the last year, including a recent <br /> accident in February 2010,which�rompted the r�quest. <br /> On March 5,2�10,ilie city mailed notices to the community residing within two blocks of <br /> the intersection (about 90 addresses). In those notices, residen#s were asked to <br /> provide comments to staff regarding the proposed, and notified that on March 22, 20'IU <br /> Council would receive comments from residents and be asked to approve, reject,and/or <br /> modity the proposett. <br /> ALTERNATIVES <br /> Council rnay choose not to approve the ins#allation of the proposed stop signs and <br /> direct staff to investigate other methads to address resident's traffic safety concerns at <br /> this intersec�ion. <br />
