<br />Shelly Masur and Alisa MacAvoy shared statistics about the District and the tough <br />budgetary situation. They explained that they are doing the same presentation to <br />various jurisdictions to make them aware of the positive things that are going on in the <br />District but also to share concerns with what might be at risk. They added their dollars <br />get stretched through partnerships and collaborations and so the funding cuts are even <br />more impactful. They spoke about an initiative that they are trying to get passed. Their <br />hope is that Redwood City will continue to support Redwood City 2020 and the <br />connections with the Library. The speakers considered their presentation tonight "a call <br />to action" to get the community involved and sign the petition. <br />Various Council Members asked questions and thanked the presenters. <br /> <br />B. 'Proclamation: April as Mosquito Vector Control Month - Maria Martinucci, <br />Mosquito Abatement District Board Member. <br /> <br />The recipients, Maria Martinucci, Redwood City representative, and Robert Gay, <br />Director of the District thanked the Mayor for this honor. Mr. Gay provided statistics on <br />occurrences and reiterated the District's commitment to responding to reports quickly to <br />avoid any serious situations. He also explained that Iyme disease is becoming a <br />concern. <br /> <br />6. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS AND CONSENT CALENDAR <br /> <br />CITY COUNCIL ACTION: Waive reading of the Consent Calendar and approve the <br />Consent Calendar items. <br /> <br />Keith Bautista with the Redwood City San Mateo County Chamber of Commerce, <br />explained that the Chamber is a non-profit organization and it is supportive of another <br />nonprofit, Kainos. He provided details on the upcoming 23rd Annual Kainos Benefit <br />Golf Tournament on May 10, 2010 at the Stanford University Golf Course and asked for <br />more golfers. He asked interested golfers to call 650-364-1722 or check their website. <br /> <br />Karen Keefer, CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) graduate, spoke about <br />the salt ponds proposed development. She spoke about water needs and climate <br />change. She finds that she is pleased with the water from Hetch Hetchy so questioned <br />why change it. She posed questions about the water supply and quality. <br /> <br />Colin Moyer addressed Council on the issue of the skate park and the fact that <br />Redwood City placed a fence around it. He questioned the cost of the fence and if <br />there really was a need for it. He opined that the funds could have been better used <br />elsewhere such as the School District. He requested answers from the Council. <br /> <br />Pat Dixon spoke about two messages she got on her machine. She explained a certain <br />situation around Cringle and Redwood Shores Parkway. She would like to have Marilyn <br />Harang, Interim Public Works Director install a stop light.
