6.20 Page 1 REPORT To the Honorable Mayor and City Council From the Cit Mana er April 26, 2010 SUBJECT Final Acceptance - Parking Lot Resurfacing Project RECOMMENDATION Accept, by motion, the Parking Lot Resurfacing Project, and authorize the release of bonds and the retention according to city procedures. I . BACKGROUND On June 22, 2009, Council awarded the construction contract for the Parking Lot Resurfacing Project to American Asphalt Repair & Resurfacing Co., Inc. of Hayward. The project was awarded for a base bid of $98,585.17. Construction began in July, 2009. The project is successfully completed in accordance with the plans and specifications. Two (2) change orders for a credit totaling $19,022.09 were issued. The final contract amount is $79,563.08, and 19.30/0 less than the contract amount initially awarded. Change orders resulted from deleting the Main Library/City Hall parking lot from the project's original scope of work. This modification was made to accommodate the circus event sponsored by the Redevelopment Agency in October, 2009. The circus was staged in the Main Library/City Hall parking lot and setup of the large tent required small holes to be drilled into the pavement. Staff deleted this parking lot from the resurfacing project as any newly applied surface would be compromised by the drilling necessary for the tent setup. The Main Library/City Hall lot will be included in the next parking lot resurfacing project. This project resurfaced and repaired seven parking lots as listed below. Slurry Seal Treatment - . Red Morton Park - Valota Lot ALTERNATIVES Council may choose not to accept the project or authorize the release of bonds and retention which would be contrary to the terms of the contract, prior Council action, and public contracting code.
