2. AGRICULTURAL RESOURCES. (In determining whether impacts to
agricultural resources are significant environmental effects, lead agencies
may refer to the California Agricultural Land Evaluation and Site Less than
Assessment Model(1997)prepared by the California Department of Significant
Potentially With Less Than
Conservation as an optional model to use in assessing impacts on agriculture Significant Mitigation Significant No
and farmland.) Would the project Impact Incorporated Impact Impact
(a) Convert Prime Farmland,Unique Farmland,or Farmland of Statewide
Importance(Farmland),as shown on the maps prepared pursuant to the .1
Farmland Mapping and Monitoring Program of the California Resources
Agency,to non-agricultural use?
(b) Conflict with existing zoning for agricultural use,or a Williamson Act D
contract? ,
(c) Involve other changes in the existing environment which, due to their D
location or nature, could result in conversion of Farmland,to non- D r
agricultural use?
Impact Analysis
a-c) The California Department of Conservation's Farmland Mapping and Monitoring Program identifies the
project site as Urban and Built-Up Land, which is defined as"...land[that] is used for residential,
industrial, commercial, institutional, public administrative purposes, railroad and other transportation
yards,cemeteries,airports,golf courses, sanitary landfills,sewage treatment,water control structures,
and other developed purposes." (California Department of Conservation, 2009). Additionally, the site is
not designated in either the Redwood City General Plan or the city's Zoning Ordinance as agricultural.
Because the site does not contain agricultural uses and is not zoned for such uses, the project would not
convert any prime farmland, unique farmland,or Farmland of Statewide Importance to non-agricultural
use.Furthermore, the project would not conflict with existing zoning for agricultural land use or a
Williamson Act contract, nor would it involve any changes to the environment that could result in the
conversion of farmland. Thus,no significant agricultural resources or operations would be affected as a
result of the project.
Reference
California Department of Conservation,Farmland Mapping and Monitoring Program, San Mateo
County Important Farmland 2008,Map Published May 2009,www.conservation.ca.gov,
accessed January 26,2010.
Port of Redwood City Multi-Agency Maritime Facility 15 February 2010
Initial Study
