Less than
Significant
Potentially With Less Than
Significant Mitigation Significant No
16. UTILITIES/SERVICE SYSTEMS. Would the project: Impact Incorporated Impact Impact
(a) Exceed wastewater treatment requirements of the applicable Regional Water
❑ ❑ ® ❑
Quality Control Board?
(b) Require or result in the construction of new water or wastewater treatment
or collection facilities or expansion of existing facilities, the construction of ❑ ❑ ❑
which could cause significant environmental effects?
(c) Require or result in the construction of new storm water drainage facilities ❑ ❑ ❑
or expansion of existing facilities, the construction of which could cause
significant environmental effects?
(d) Have sufficient water supplies available to serve the project from existing ❑ ❑ ® ❑
entitlements and resources,or are new or expanded entitlements needed?
(e) Result in a determination by the wastewater treatment provider which serves ❑ ❑ ❑
or may serve the project that it has adequate capacity to serve the project's
•ro'ected demand in addition to the •rovider's existinI commitments?
(f) Be served by a landfill with insufficient permitted capacity to accommodate ❑ ❑ ® ❑
the project's solid waste disposal needs?
(g) Comply with federal, state, and local statutes and regulations related to solid ❑ ❑ ® ❑
wastes.
Impact Analysis:
a—g) Electricity. The project site is within an urban area that is served by existing utilities and service
systems, including gas, electricity, water, wastewater and storm water collection and treatment, and
solid waste collection and disposal.Pacific Gas and Electric(PG&E)provides electric power and
natural gas to the project site. The proposed new facility will include installation of utilities(water and
electric)from shore to the dock feeding utility pedestals on the new dock system. The existing electrical
connections are adequate to allow the shore to dock utility installation. No new electrical distribution
lines would be required.
Water Supply.Redwood City receives all of its domestic water supply from the San Francisco Hetch
Hetchy regional water system through the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission(SFPUC).The
proposed new facility will include installation of utilities(water and electric)from shore to the dock
feeding utility pedestals on the new dock system. The existing water connections are adequate to allow
the shore to dock utility installation. No new water supplies or expansion of existing water facilities
would be required.
Wastewater Management. The South Bayside System Authority(SBSA)manages all wastewater and
sewage treatment for Redwood City, including the Port.
The Multi-Agency Maritime Facility project will renovate and update and existing dilapidated structure
and boat berthing/launching facility. No change in land use is proposed on the project site.Because the
project will not change the type of land use(e.g., from industrial to residential),there would not be an
overall increased demand on utilities and service systems.Temporary increases in energy and water use
and temporary increases in waste generation are expected during the construction phases of the project.
However,as these increases would be temporary, existing utilities and service systems will be adequate.
Therefore, the impacts would be less than significant.
References
Port of Redwood City Multi-Agency Maritime Facility
43 February 2010
Initial Study
