If this amendment is
approved, prospective offices may compete and possible win over potential clubs
and restaurants vying for storefronts along Main Stree#.
We agree with you that it is desirable to encourage clubs, restaurants, etc, to the
extent possible, to occupy storefronts in along Broadway; however, it is ultimately
up to the property owner and business owner to work out mutually agreeable
terms. I'm not sure what the property owners are demanding by way of rent.
1 would continue talking to the business owners and communicating your concerns
to the business owners, but 1 would also encourage you and your fellow neighbors
to talk to the property owner of your building to commence with much-needed
improvements. For your information, Deseo's will be starting to make some sound
attenuation improvements imminently.
If the amendment does move forward, instead of just potentia! restaurateurs and
club/bar owners competing for a space, they may face competition from potential
office tenants.
It is important to note that the uses proposed for this portion downtown were
permitted prior to the adoption of the Central Business Retail (CBR) Zoning District
in 1991.
Please feel free to contact me if you have additional questions and/or concerns.
Regards,
Sailesh Mehra
Associate City Planner
City of Redwood City
1017 Middlefield Road
Redwood City, CA 94063
P: 650.780.7278 ~ F: 650.780.0128
http: / iwww.redwoodcity.org
~ E: smehraC~redwoodcity.or4 ( W:
From: Carol Wolfe [mailto:mammacayo@yahoo.com]
Sent: Thursday, April 01, 2010 4:37 PM
To: PLG-Sailesh Mehra
Subject: Zoning Amendment
Hello Mr.Mehra,
I am confused by the notice I received in the mail about Article 26. Is it saying that now medical,
and administration offices will be allowed on the ground floor in the downtown area?
I am concerned about the businesses along Main Street. We have many restaurants/alcohol
serving businesses there now, which are staying open late and disrupting resident's sleep. I'm sure
4/15/2~1~
