6.2A
Page 1
REPORT
To the Honorable Mayor and City Council
From the City Manager
May 24, 2010
SUBJECT
Final Acceptance -Willow Street Improvement Project
RECOMMENDATION
Accept, by motion, the Willow Street Improvement Project and authorize the release of
bonds and the retention according to city procedures.
BACKGROUND
On August 24, 2009, Council awarded the construction contract for the Willow Street
Improvement Project to Joseph J. Albanese, Inc., for a base bid of $223,305.50.
Construction began in September of 2009. The project was successfully completed in
accordance with the plans and specifications. Seven (7) change orders totaling
$15,246.00 were issued. The final contract amount is $238,551.50 which is 6.8% more
than the initially awarded contract amount. Change orders resulted from unforeseeable
conditions encountered during construction. Unanticipated work included changes to
the grading and quantity adjustments.
ALTERNATIVES
Council may choose not to accept the project and/or not to authorize the release of
bonds and retention which would be contrary to the terms of the contract, prior Council
action, and the public contracting code.
FISCAL IMPACT
Costco Wholesale Corporation contributed $100,000.00 to the Willow Street
Improvement Project. Sufficient funding for the construction agreement was previously
appropriated from the Capital Improvement Fund -Sidewalk Replacement Program and
Sform Drain Collection System Construction.
:~'`G,~
M.
