6.18
Page 1

REPORT

To the Honorable Mayor and City Council
From the City Manager

June 14, 2010

Subject
Disposal of Surplus Property

Recommendation
By Motion, authorize the declaration of the Fire Department's IlLifepak 11" model monitor,
defibrillator and chargers to be surplus, and authorize staff to sell these items per City
procedure.

Background
The Fire Department currently has in its reserves one obsolete "Lifepak 11" model heart
monitor and defibrillator, along with two battery chargers that are specific to this model.
This "Lifepak 11" was part of the original units that were purchased when the Redwood City
Fire Department entered into the agreement to provide paramedic services in 1997. In
recent years, the Department has upgraded its supply of defibrillators to the IlLifepak 12"
model and the IlLifepak 11" unit was placed in reserve. Since the Department currently has
two additional reserve monitors that are both newer models, the "lifepak 11" unit and two
battery chargers are no longer needed.

Government Code Section 37351 and Section 3 % d of the Charter of the City of Redwood
City as amended, permits the sale of any City personal property having an appraised value
of five thousand dollars or less without public notice or public bid for any reasonable
amount, irrespective of its appraised value.

Alternative
Continue storing the Fire Department's surplus property, thus recouping no funds.

Fiscal Impact
Revenue from the sale of this surplus property will be returned to the General Fund.

~r-h", by 1<'.-'''''
Dan Horton
Fire Captain

ATTACHMENTS
1.
