On July 1, 1996, this Council adopted Ordinance No. 2110, entitled
"Ordinance Establishing A Moratorium Upon the Opening or
Expansion of Adult-Oriented Businesses In the City of Redwood City,"
pursuant to the provisions of Government Code Section 65858(a).

2. Said ordinance was enacted in response to a pending application
for an adult-oriented book store submitted to the Planning Division of
the City of Redwood City to be located immediately adjacent to a
residential neighborhood and within 1700 feet of a school.

3. The location of the aforesaid proposed adult-oriented book store is on
the same main thoroughfare (to wit: El Camino Real) as, and within the
vicinity of, an existing adult-oriented bookstore, which latter store is
within 450 feet of essentially the same residential neighborhood as that
adjacent to the location of the proposed adult-oriented bookstore, and
which existing adult-oriented bookstore is within 220 feet of the
aforesaid school.

4. The location of the proposed adult-oriented bookstore is also
approximately 2800 feet from Sequoia Station, a recently established,
high quality shopping center developed by the Redevelopment
Agency of the City of Redwood City.

5. In addition to the pending application, numerous inquiries have been
made to the Planning Division by other prospective operators of adult-
oriented businesses regarding the establishment of such businesses
in the City.

G:Shared~edwood/Comdev 1
