E5. A- I
REPORT
To the Honorable Mayor and City Council
From the City Manager
January 27, 2003
Subject
Reaffirmation of the Council's support for funding of future ferry service to and from
Redwood City through State bridge toll revenues, and adding its support for additional
funding of the project through the San Mateo County sales tax extension.
Recommendation
Approve the attached resolution reaffirming support for utilizing a portion of State Bridge toll
revenues for future ferry service to and from Redwood City, and adding support for additional
funding of the project through a portion of the San Mateo County sales tax extension.
Background
At its meeting of August 5, 2002, the Council adopted a resolution of support for including the
capital and operating costs of starting ferry service out of Redwood City in San Mateo
County's priorities for the State Bridge Toll Expenditure Plan (Resolution #14460 and Staff
Report attached). Additionally, on February 9, 1999 the Council adopted a resolution offering
general support for the development of water transit services to the Port of Redwood City
(Resolution #13552, attached).
This year, the County of San Mateo is expected to produce a Transportation Expenditure
Plan for the County's sales tax extension, which is scheduled to take effect in 2009. This
represents a possible additional source of funding for a future Redwood City ferry service.
This resolution will present the Council's support for including funding of a future Redwood
City ferry service as an element of San Mateo County's Transportation Expenditure Plan.
Alternative
The Council could choose not to adopt this resolution, and not go on record as supporting
inclusion of future Redwood City ferry service in San Mateo County's Transportation
Expenditure Plan.
Fiscal Impact
There is no fiscal impact resulting from the passage of this resolution.
Diane Howard, Council Member `—
Bay Area Water Transit Authority
Community Advisory Committee Chairperson
