REPORT <br />To the Honorable Mayor and City Council <br />From the City Manager <br />February 3, 2003 <br />Subject <br />Surplus Property <br />7.2A- I <br />Recommendation <br />By resolution, declare one 1972 Fire Pumper Truck surplus and authorize the transfer of <br />this truck to Colima, Mexico. <br />Background <br />The Public Works Services Department, in coordination with the Finance Department, acts <br />as the centralized collection and storage point for City personal property, either worn out <br />and /or surplus from various City departments. <br />Government code Section 37351 and Section 3 -1/2 of the Charter of the City of Redwood <br />City as amended, permits the sale of any City personal property having an appraised value <br />five thousand dollars or less without public notice or public bid for any reasonable amount, <br />irrespective of its appraised value. It also allows the City to dispose of surplus property no <br />longer required or needed for present, prospective municipal or public purpose without sale. <br />Attached hereto is the description of the surplus Fire Pumper. It has been appraised at <br />less than $5,000 (See Exhibit). This piece of surplus property has exceeded its useful life, <br />served as a front line response vehicle for twenty years and then as a back -up unit for eight <br />years.
