' <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />DES:yc:9/29/70 <br />ORiGiNAL <br /> <br />SEP 2d '7Q <br /> <br />RES 0 L UTI 0 N <br />---------- <br /> <br />N o. 6.1'''., <br /> <br />RESOLUTION COMMENDING FIRE CHIEF KELLER AND DEPUTY <br />FIRE CHIEF BIAGI FOR EXCEPTIONAL PERFORMANCE OF <br />DUTY IN COMBATTING FIRE IN DEVONSHIRE CANYON AREA <br /> <br />WHEREAS, on Sunday, September 27, 1970, the Devonshire <br /> <br />Canyon area of San Carlos was turned into a flaming holocaust <br /> <br />involving some 35 acres of brush and forested lands: and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, as a result thereof, an untold number of lives <br /> <br />and potentially millions of dollars of property were placed in <br /> <br />imminent peril; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, upon arriving at the scene, Fire Chief John Keller, <br /> <br />acting as coordinator of the operation, immediately assumed <br /> <br />command of all fire fighting forces involved: and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, in connection with the coordination of said fire <br /> <br />fighting forces Deputy Fire Chief Emile Biagi assumed direction <br /> <br />of the command post for the coordinated fire fighting operation; <br /> <br />and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Chief Keller, assisted by Deputy Chief Biagi, had <br /> <br />under their control and direction over 200 professional fire <br /> <br />fighters and volunteers representing some 15 cities, the County, <br /> <br />the State Division of Forestry, and the California Disaster <br /> <br />Office; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, in addition to direction of the personnel involved, <br /> <br />Chief Keller, assisted by Deputy Chief Biagi, directed the use <br /> <br />and operation of fire fighting equipment and material including <br /> <br />some 25 engines and tankers, a bulldozer, and five aircraft::and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, as a result of the exemplary efforts of all personnel <br /> <br />involved, and as a direct result of the outstanding coordination <br /> <br />and direction by Chief Keller and Deputy Chief Biagi of the fire <br /> <br />fighting forces involved, the fire was controlled and extinguished <br /> <br />without the loss of a single life and without loss of homes or <br />
