6.2B <br /> Page 1 <br /> REPORT <br /> To the Honorable Mayor and City Council <br /> From the Cit Mana er <br /> August 23, 2010 <br /> SUBJECT <br /> Final Acceptance—2009-2010 Sewer Main Replacement Project {Hopkins Avenue) <br /> RECOMMENDATION <br /> Accept, by motion, the 2009-2010 Sewer Main Replacement Project (Hopkins Avenue) <br /> and authorize the release of bonds and the retention according to city procedures. <br /> BACKGROUND <br /> 4n March 8, 2010, Council awarded the construction contract for the 2009-2010 Sewer <br /> Replacement Project (Hopkins Avenue) to Casey Construction, Inc. The work for this ' <br /> project included replacement of sewer pipelines and manholes located along Hopkins <br /> Avenue between Fulton Street and Alameda De Las Pulgas. The project replaced <br /> approximately 3,350 linear feet of existing 6-inch vitrified clay pipe (VCP) sewer main <br /> with new 8-inch polyviny[ chloride pipe (PVC), 11 manholes, and 27 sanitary sewer <br /> laterals. The project improved the reliability and performance of the sewer system for <br /> area residents. <br /> The contract was awarded for a base bid of$330,000.0�. Construction began in April, <br /> 2010. The project was successfully completed in accordance with the plans and <br /> specifications. One (1) change order totaling $7,693.07 was issued. The final contract <br /> amount is $337,693.07 which is 2.3% more than the initially awarded contract amount. <br /> Change orders resulted from additional work requested by the city for spot repair of <br />� broken sewer pipelines in the area outside the original contract scope. <br /> ALTERNATIVES <br /> Council may choose not to accept the project and/or not to authorize the release of <br /> bonds and retention which would be contrary to the terms of the contract, prior Council <br /> action, and the public contracting code. <br /> FISCAL IMPACT <br /> Sufficient funding for this construction agreement has been previously approved as <br /> Sewer Fund Capital Projects, Collection System Replacemen�. <br /> � �� <br /> Jimmy Tan PE S.
