r4.1 D- <br />February 24, 2003 <br />Subject <br />Final Acceptance - Lighted Crosswalk Warning System Project <br />(Bay Road/10`" Avenue & Florence Street/17 h Avenue) <br />Engineering File No. 1601 -03 <br />Recommendation <br />Accept, by motion, the Lighted Crosswalk Warning System Project (Bay Road /10"' <br />Avenue & Florence Street/17"' Avenue), and release the bonds. <br />Background <br />On June 10, 2002, the City Council approved the contract documents and authorized <br />the award of contract for the Lighted Crosswalk Warning System Project (Bay <br />Road /10th Avenue & Florence Street/17th Avenue), to the lowest responsible bidder, <br />Pacific Electric Company, of San Jose, California, for the amount of $73,750.00. <br />The construction of the lighted crosswalk warning systems at Bay Road/Tenth Avenue <br />and Florence Street/Seventeenth Avenue has been completed to staff's satisfaction, <br />and the systems are now in operation. The crosswalk warning systems were installed <br />in response to requests from school officials and community residents to improve the <br />safety of the uncontrolled, marked crosswalks at these locations. <br />A minor contract change order in the amount of $215.00 was issued to replace <br />additional concrete sidewalk. The final project cost is $73,965.00 ($73, 750 Base Bid + <br />$215.00 change order). <br />Next Steps <br />If City Council accepts this project, staff will proceed to file a Notice of Completion and <br />will make the final (retention) payment to the Contractor to close out the project. This <br />will also commence the one -year warranty period. <br />Alternative <br />Do not accept the Lighted Crosswalk Warning System Project, which would be contrary <br />to prior Council action. <br />
