75A- I <br />REPORT <br />To the Honorable Mayor and City C <br />And the Redevelopment Agency <br />From the City M; <br />February 24, 2003 <br />Subject <br />Approve Change Order No. 2 and Final Acceptance — Demolition of 846 Jefferson Avenue <br />(Redwood Plaza) <br />Recommendation <br />Approve Change Order No. 2 and Accept the Demolition of 846 Jefferson Avenue <br />(Redwood Plaza), and authorize the release of bonds. <br />Background: <br />In 2002, the City Council approved the demolition of the abandoned strip mall located at <br />846 Jefferson Avenue that the Redevelopment Agency acquired as part of the future <br />development of the Cinema Project. The low bidder for the demolition project was <br />Evans Brothers from Livermore, with a bid of $31,388.00. The work has been <br />satisfactorily completed. Two change orders were issued totaling $5,269.31 for <br />unforeseen conditions during demolition. These change orders include environmental <br />removal and disposal of freon from air conditioning units and PCBs from ballast in the <br />overhead lighting ($1,595.00); and removal and disposal of unforeseen asphalt from <br />beneath the building pad ($3,674.31). <br />The final contract amount of $36,657.31 is approximately 16.8% above the original bid <br />amount due to these unforeseen conditions. <br />Alternative <br />Do not accept the Demolition of 846 Jefferson Avenue, which will be contrary to prior <br />Council action. <br />Fiscal Impacts <br />Funds in the amount of $40,000 were allocated in the Redev lopment Agency Program <br />Budget for this project. <br />rian Lee <br />Patterson <br />Senior City Engineer <br />anager, Engine ng 8 Construction <br />4 tt ; <br />Michael Church <br />Ed <br />Executive Director Redevelopment Agency <br />City Manager <br />
