-0 . 16 0 <br />City of Redwood City <br />Class Specification <br />January 18, 1961 <br />JOB SPECIFICATIONS <br />JUNIOR LIBRARY CLERK <br />DEFINITION <br />Under immediate supervision to meet the public and to do <br />a variety of sub- professional library tasks; to perform <br />related duties as required. <br />TYPICAL TASKS <br />Serves library patrons; issues and receives books and other <br />library materials; registers new borrowers; collects and <br />accounts for fines; answers telephone and refers calls to <br />correct department; receives and handles matters involving <br />lost books and overdue notices at the circulation desk. <br />Alphabetizes and files cards; types reports, lists and orders; <br />operates office appliances; does simple copying in catalog <br />department; assists in transaction card handling; does book <br />mending, marking and processing; handles mail routines., <br />DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS <br />This is the first class in a series. Positions in this class <br />require some independence of action and responsibility, in- <br />cluding the skill to handle the public and work under exacting <br />pressures at the circulation desk. <br />EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS <br />Completion of the twelfth grade or possession of G. E. D. <br />certificate. <br />Knowledge of alphabetizing, indexing and filing methods; good <br />command of spoken and written English; ability to make <br />arithmetical computations; ability to understand and follow <br />oral and written directions; ability to establish and maintain <br />cooperative and cordial working relations with the public; <br />possession of a pleasant personality and neat appearance; <br />ability to type. <br />EXHIBIT "A" <br />
