"Supplemental" After School Education and Safety Grant (ASES) Agreement <br />and 21st Century Cohort 5 Grant (RCSD Agreement No. 201011-727) <br />2. After School Education and Safety Grant (ASES) Agreement and 21st Century <br />Cohort 5 Grant (RCSD Agreement No. 201011-728) <br />3. First Amendment for the After School Education and Safety Grant (RCSD <br />Agreement No. 200809-498A) <br /> <br />BACKGROUND <br />The Parks, Recreation and Community Services (PRCS) Department operates After <br />School Learning Centers at seven school sites in Redwood City and the North Fair <br />Oaks Area in partnership with the Redwood City School District. These schools include: <br />Fair Oaks, Selby Lane, Garfield, Ford, Hoover, Hawes and John Gill. Services include <br />after school tutoring, recreation and enrichment programming such as life skills and <br />family education opportunities. The majority of funding for the programs comes from <br />State and Federal grants managed by the District. <br /> <br />The City provides an after school program Coordinator on each site, and maintains a <br />1 :15 ratio of Youth Development Leaders to children. The City also works with many <br />other partners to provide quality activities and educational experiences. Program <br />partners include: Redwood City 2020, Redwood City Family Centers, Hidden Villa, <br />Tutorworks, YMCA, Stanford University, John Gardner Center, Police Activities League, <br />Sheriffs Activities League, Boys and Girls Club, and others. <br /> <br />In the upcoming fiscal year, the PRCS Department will be serving nearly 1,000 children <br />each day at the school sites. This is made possible from two grants: the After-School <br />Education and Safety Grant (ASES) and the 21st Century Grant. The City will be <br />receiving a not to exceed amount of $130,157.95 from the Supplemental Agreement <br />(school break programs); $797,589.55 for the regular After School programming; and a <br />
