October 11, 2010 SUBJECT Public Allies San Francisco/Silicon Valley Agreement for AmeriCorps Service Position at Fair Oaks Community Center. RECOMMENDATION Approve and authorize the City Manager to sign the Public Allies San Francisco/Silicon Valley Agreement 2010-2011 for AmeriCorps Service Position at Fair Oaks Community Center. BACKGROUND Over the last four years, the City has partnered with Public Allies San Francisco/Silicon Valley (formerly known as Public Allies Silicon Valley) for the placement of an AmeriCorps Public Ally as a part of the Information and Referral Program staff-- expanding from three to four Human Services Specialists with grant funds staff has raised each year. The addition of one Public Ally makes it possible for the City to better meet the demand for services at the Fair Oaks Community Center and for our information and referral program to develop more comprehensive services for homeless individuals and families in our community. This has been an important contribution to our own City's efforts to assist homeless individuals and families in the context of the countywide effort to end homelessness (HOPE Plan). Private foundation grants in the amount of $15,777 will fund the AmeriCorps position for the Information and Referral Program for FY 10-11. The agreement covers the period from September 2010 to June 2011. Redwood City will pay Public Allies San Francisco/Silicon Valley a total of$15,777 in matching funds toward the Ally's stipend. ALTERNATIVES Council could make modifications to the contract or decide not to approve the contract. FISCAL IMPACT Grant funds have been secured and will be appropriated as a art of the Fiscal Year 2010-2011 P mid-year budget adjustment to pay for the Public Ally placement.
