REPORT
To the Honorable Mayor and City
From the City
March 10, 2003
Subject
Purchase of One Toro Groundsmaster 580 -D Lawn Mower
Recommendation
By motion approve the purchase of one 'Toro Groundsmaster 580 -D" lawn mower in the
amount of $62,869.54 from the State of California Office of Procurement under the
California Multiple Award Schedule (CMAS) GS- OOF- 0087M.
Background
Representatives from the Public Works Services and the Parks, Recreation and
Community Services Departments have been evaluating different makes and models of
lawn mowers to replace an existing 1991 Groundsmaster 580 -D lawn mower. Afterseveral
onsite demonstrations, staff agrees the 580 -D is still the best unit that meets the needs of
the Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department. The Groundsmaster 580 -D
offers improved safety features, lower maintenance requirements, larger cutting deck span
and easier operating features than other comparable lawn mowers included in the
evaluation.
Alternative
Not approving the purchase of this lawn mower would impact the operational requirements
of the Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department since their existing 1991
580 -D lawn mower is extremely worn and has been experiencing frequent breakdowns.
This is their only lawn mower with a large enough deck to efficiently mow large lawn areas
like Red Morton , Hawes, Stafford, Garret, Mariner & Marlin Parks and also three school
sites.
Fiscal Impact
Funds for the purchase of this replacement Toro Groundsmaster 580 -D lawn mower were
approved and appropriated by the City Council in the Fiscal Year 2002/03 Equipment
Replacement Fund budget in the amount of $86,050.
0
Lard arwacz Peter Ingram Ed vere
Public Works Superintendent Public Works Se ices Director City Manager
►c -1
Attachment: None
