(O2A-z
Staff contacted the Town of Woodside to obtain permission to install and maintain the
appropriate stop signs and pavement markings needed to implement the 4 -way stop on the
westerly half of Fernside Street, which is within the Town's limits. On February 11, 2003,
the Town Council of the Town of Woodside adopted a resolution designating the subject
intersection as a 4 -way stop intersection, and granting Redwood City permission to install
stop control devices within the Woodside Town limit.
Notices regarding the proposed stop signs were sent to 19 residences (and their property
owners) in the vicinity of the intersection. The notice announced that the stop signs would
be recommended to the City Council at this meeting, and indicated that comments on the
issue could be submitted to the City's Traffic Engineer by Monday, March 10, 2003. As of
that time, two communications were received on this subject: both indicated support.
Alternative
Leave traffic control at the intersection as is, with stop signs on Massachusetts Avenue and
Woodside Drive, and no control on Fernside Street. Notify the Town of Woodside that the
City of Redwood City does not authorize designating this intersection as a 4 -way stop.
Place "cross traffic does not stop" supplementary plates on the two existing stop signs at
the intersection (pending permission from Town of Woodside to do so on the Woodside
Drive stop).
Fiscal Impact
The total cost for addition of two stop signs with associated pavement markings and
warning signs is estimated at $3,000. Funds for this project are allocated in the
Neighborhood Traffic Calming Program of the 2003 -2003 Capital Improvement Program
budget, as part of the Gas Tax Construction Fund. Minor maintenance costs will be
incurred in future years.
Richard K.
