�, I D -i <br />REPORT <br />To the Honorable Mayor and City <br />From the City I <br />April 7, 2003 <br />Subject <br />Final Acceptance — 2001 -2002 Bike Path Improvement Project <br />Engineering File 806 -04 <br />Recommendation <br />Accept the 2001 -2002 Bike Path Improvement Project, approve change orders, and <br />authorize the release of bonds and retention. <br />Background <br />On October 7, 2003, the City Council awarded the contract for the 2001 -2002 Bike Path <br />Improvement Project to Granite Rock Company dba Pavex Construction Division, of <br />Redwood City, California for their bid of $321,753.00, which included an "add <br />alternate ". <br />The paths that were reconstructed were previously dirt paths along portions of Redwood <br />- Shores Parkway and Bridge Parkway. These paths were upgraded to State Standard <br />"Class I" multi -use paths, which are accessible to both pedestrians and cyclists. The <br />project was a result of community involvement, which included the various homeowner <br />associations, concerned pedestrians, and bicyclists in the Redwood Shores Area. <br />The City applied for a Federal Transportation Enhancement Activities (TEA) grant in the <br />amount of $195,000 to help fund the construction costs. <br />The project has been successfully completed in accordance to the Plans and <br />Specifications for a total cost of $324,513.00. Change orders and quantity adjustments <br />resulted in an additional cost of $2,760.00, which is less than 1% of the original bid <br />price. The final cost of the project was achieved by careful management by staff, and a <br />responsible local contractor who partnered with the City to keep the project costs within <br />budget and any additional costs to a minimum. <br />Alternative <br />Do not approve the Final Acceptance of this project, which would be contrary to Council <br />priorities. <br />Page 1 of 2 <br />
