6.1 F
Page 26
Grand Jury Response
Page 9
Justice. DOJ does not intend to reinstate SAFE. Unfortunately all of our focal ',
budgets are experiencing severe fiscal constraints and individual agencies would not
be able to contribute resources without an identified source of additional funding.
The registration and monitoring of sex ofFenders who are not on probation or parole
falls upon local law enforcement as an unfunded State mandate.
3. Develop a county-wide plan to improve the sharing of information regarding fhe
sexual offender law enforcemenf.
This recommendation has been implemented. There are several initiatives which
wi(1 contribute to data sharing befineen agencies that are current(y on-line such as
Critical Rech, VCIN and Coplink which provide data across our law enforcement
intranet. The Redwood City Police Deparfiment will continue to actively participate
with the Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation in the GPS moni#oring of
active paroled sex offenders, and support the Probation Department's efforts to
monitor offenders on probation. Additionally, we will actively participate in the new
DOJ Sex Offender and Arson Registry as it comes online this year.
