6.1 G
Pa e 1
To the Honorable Mayor and City Council
From the City Manager
October 25, 2010
Subject
Ratification of City Council's October 11, 2010 Decision to Purchase Real Property
Recommendation
By motion:
1. Ratify the City Council's ctober 11, 2010 decision to authorize the City Manager
to enter into purchase option agreements for the four properties known as the
Chemical Way Site, and which are assignable to the County of San Mateo;
2. Ratify the City Council's October '11, 2010 decision to authorize the Cify Manager
to post option payments (non-refundable) totaling $8,00.00 and deposits
(refundable) totaling $192,000.00, with the understanding that the County of San
Mateo will reimburse $200,00.00 to the City prior to exercise of the option and
the closing of the property sales;
Background
As described in the October 11, 2010 report to the City Council, the City has been
engaged in actions to effectuate the City Council's direction to identify alternative
property for a County replacement jail facility. The City identified suitable property and
requested the City Council's authori#y to enter into option purchase agreements. Due to
a clerical error, noticing required by Redwood City Charter Section 3.5 did not occur
timely and in an abundance of caution, s#aff is seeking ratification of the decisions made
on October 11, 201 with respect to the property acquisition. Therefore, this report
largely repeats the October 11, 2010 staff report.
The properties identified for acquisition by option purchase agreement are:
1. Property: 20 Chemical Way, Redwood City, CA
APN: 052-392-240 & 52-392-270
Size in Acres: 0.945
Owner of Record: Chemical Way Properties, LLC
2. Property: 50 Chemical Way, Redwood City, CA
APN: 052-392-210 & 052-392-260
Size in Acres: 1.500
wner of Record: Las Cruces Holdings, LLC
3. Property: 70 Chemical Way, Redwaod City CA
APN: 052-392-200
Size in Acres: 1.000
Owner of Record: Kona Ventures, LLC
4. Property: 80 Chemical Way, Redwood City, CA
