Investigative reviews indicated that the
excessive heat in the room, constant moisture, and the lack of expansion joints in the
tile mortar bed caused the buckling of the tiles. The men's toilet and shower area has
been closed until the floor tiles are replaced and repaired.
Two (2) bids for the above - referenced project were received on April 9, 2003, and are
summarized below.
Rank
Contractor
Amount (Base
Bid
1.
Tinney Construction Corp. — Redwood City, CA
$18,000.00
2.
A & A Construction — Los Gatos, CA
$26,000.00
The low bid of $18,000.00 was 22% below the Engineer's Estimate of $23,000. After
reviewing the bids and the Engineer's Estimate for the cost of construction, the bid is
considered a fair and responsive bid.
A complete copy of the agreement is available for review in the City Clerk's Office.
Alternatives
Do not approve the contract for the Municipal Services Center Replacement of the
Men's Toilet/Shower Area Ceramic Tile Floors Project, and it shall remain in its
deteriorated condition.
