SAL <br />LEG ACTION DAYS from page 1...... <br />The timing is perfect — May 14 is also the statu- <br />tory requirement for the governor to release the "May <br />Revise ", the revisions to his January budget proposal <br />based upon the latest information about revenues. <br />This is the time in the annual state budget cycle when <br />activities intensify, and legislators and the Administra- <br />tion knuckle down for the hard work of hammering out <br />a fiscal plan for 2003 -04. <br />... ............................... <br />The "May Revise" is scheduled to be announced <br />by the Governor at a press conference on May 14. <br />Speakers and Press Conference <br />The Legislative Action Days event will kick off <br />May 14 around 1 p.m. with a welcome from the <br />presidents and executive directors of the LOCAL <br />sponsoring agencies: the League, the California <br />State Association of Counties (CSAC) and the Califor- <br />nia Special Districts Association. Plans are underway <br />for participants to watch the Governor's "May Revise" <br />press conference on Wednesday, either through a <br />live feed, or a taped version (depending upon the <br />scheduling of the press conference). <br />Senate Minority Leader Jim Brulte will address <br />the group at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, and State <br />Department of Finance Director Steve Peace is <br />scheduled to speak on Thursday morning. Both will <br />talk about the Governor's new May Revise proposal <br />and its impacts on local services. <br />Wednesday afternoon will be devoted to legisla- <br />tive visits, followed by a legislative reception, 5:30- <br />7:30. A press conference and rally is scheduled <br />Thursday morning at the State Capitol. <br />Know Your Budget Numbers) <br />City officials and other coalition partners planning <br />on attending Leg Action Days can strengthen the <br />power of their messages to legislators if they can <br />state the impact that the May Revise or other budget <br />proposals will have on real people and real services <br />in their communities. To register to attend, please visit the <br />League's website. <br />League Special Membership Meeting to Follow <br />Leg Action Days <br />City officials who remain in Sacramento following <br />the press conference are also invited to attend a <br />special meeting of the League's General Assembly, <br />set for 1:00 — 3:30 in the Sacramento Community <br />Theatre. City delegates will be asked to vote on a <br />resolution relating to the state budget. (See article on <br />"Special Membership Meeting. ") <br />MEMBER MEETING from page 1.... 0 <br />The Special Meeting of the League General <br />Assembly was announced by the League in late <br />March. City delegates at the meeting will be asked to <br />vote on a League- sponsored resolution that will set <br />forth the conditions under which the League could <br />support a budget recovery package that includes <br />local revenue "contributions ", debt financing and a <br />temporary tax increase dedicated to retiring short- <br />term debt. <br />The information package includes a copy of the <br />draft resolution, as well as background information <br />relating to the development of this proposal. Voting <br />procedures are also explained in the materials. City <br />officials who wish to obtain a copy of the materials can <br />do so by contacting the League at 916.658.8200. <br />Special Briefings Scheduled to Answer <br />Questions <br />The League has also scheduled conference call <br />briefings for city officials who have questions about <br />the upcoming meeting. The third and last scheduled <br />conference call is set for Monday, May 1$ at4:00- <br />5:00 P.M.
