The League's publication, "A <br />Primer on California City Finance ", was distributed <br />to all present. In addition, City Manager Evans <br />used recent Western City state finance data <br />charts as part of his presentation and created <br />similar charts for the city detailing impacts of state <br />takeaways on the city budget. <br />On a warm Monday evening, Riverside <br />County Division members gave a standing <br />ovation to League President John Russo for his <br />speech demanding preservation of local funding <br />and integrity in government. Russo's keynote, <br />delivered just two days before Legislative Action <br />Days, called for "unrelenting pressure on state <br />legislators." <br />"We can't let up," Russo said. "The stakes are <br />just too high." The regular Riverside County <br />Division meeting was hosted by the City of La <br />Quinta. Mayor Don Adolph and Council mem- <br />ber Terry Henderson selected the Civic Center <br />Courtyard for the evening's dinner for 83 people, <br />including electeds and other city officials. <br />The Monterey Peninsula Chamber of <br />Commerce assisted the Monterey Bay Division <br />in spreading the word about LOCAL's Legislative <br />Action Days. Get immediate <br />reaction to the Governor's May Budget Revise <br />from LOCAL leaders (the Governor's May Budget <br />Revise will be released in Sacramento on May <br />14th during the Legislative Action Days)." <br />• League Legislative Director Dwight <br />Stenbakken was the guest on the hour -long <br />public affairs program on KUSP -FM 88.9 (NPR, <br />Mendocino County) on May 15. The subject was <br />the budget, and how it impacts local services. <br />Dwight reported that a number of callers made <br />interesting suggestions on how to balance or <br />restructure the budget. Several callers asked how <br />they could get more involved in the budget pro- <br />cess.
